I started off the season with a strong week 1, followed by a miserable week 2 in which I lost a ton of money. In week 3, I bounced back with my best week of the season so far and was really very close to a big payday in the Fanduel NFL Sunday Million contest. Here’s a look at my best lineup compared to the lineup that won the $1,000,000 prize:
My lineup was pretty good. I had several lineups with Ridley + Boyd, which represented a tremendous 1-2 punch as far as value is concerned. I also had a few lineups with Matt Ryan + Calvin Ridley but didn’t have Tyler Boyd on any of those. Ryan was tied with Jimmy Garoppolo as my 4th-highest-owned QB on the weekend. I had a TON of Alvin Kamara… He was on 28% of my rosters. Robert Woods was on my radar… I had him on 3 rosters, but I did not own him very heavily. If I had pivoted down from Fuller to Woods at the WR spot, I would not have played Deshaun Watson on this lineup because I’m a big believer in stacking a QB and at least 1 pass catcher in almost every instance. This naturally would have moved me to Ryan on this lineup, since I already had a lot of him and he would have been a complement to Ridley at the exact same salary as Watson. Because of my heavy interest in Kamara, I would have used the extra $500 in salary to move up from Ezekiel Elliott to Alvin Kamara. These changes are very natural and obvious to me and would have happened if I had been a little more interested in Woods. Those changes would have added 37.46 points to my score, bringing my total up to 216.16 and giving me 1st place overall.
I know hindsight is 20/20, and it’s very easy to retroactively think: “Well if I had just used the perfect lineup, I would have won.” — The thing here is that these are all plays I was on. My process and research were where it needed to be, and I’m happy with the results. I know that if I’m this close, as long as I continue to make smart decisions based on good research, I’ll break through and win big soon.
I’m looking forward to that happening in week 4!
